Japanese forces appear in the background of the Indiana Jones franchise's 1930s Asia. Short Round was orphaned when the Japanese bombed Shanghai in 1932. In the video game Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, Jones opens a portal that takes him to Shanghai in the midst of the Japanese invasion of the city, and he later hijacks a Japanese fighter plane to reach the Great Circle ruin in Sukhothai, Siam.
