Berlin

Berlin, 1938: Indy recovers his father's diary at a Nazi book-burning rally and meets Hitler.

Berlin is a setting of Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade (1938): after escaping Brunwald Castle, Indy and his father travel to Berlin, where Indy retrieves the Grail diary from Elsa Schneider during a book-burning rally hosted by Adolf Hitler, before the two flee on a Zeppelin. Michael Sheard plays Hitler, and Ronald Lacey, who played Toht in Raiders, cameos as Heinrich Himmler.

Lore & Background

In the 1944 opening of Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, Jones escapes onto a Berlin-bound train filled with looted antiquities, frees Basil Shaw and takes half of Archimedes' Dial before Allied warplanes derail the train. An unmade Young Indiana Jones episode, "Berlin, Late August 1916", would have had Indy escape from prison and flee to Berlin.

Reader's Guide

The book-burning rally shows the Nazi regime at the height of its power in 1938, and it is the one time in the films that Jones meets Hitler face to face.
