Hangar 51 in Nevada: where the Soviets force Indy to find a Roswell alien in 1957.
In the Indiana Jones films the Nevada base is called "Hangar 51". Kingdom of the Crystal Skull opens there in 1957: Soviet agents led by Irina Spalko infiltrate Hangar 51 and use Jones to locate a mummified alien from the Roswell incident, and the Ark of the Covenant is glimpsed in a broken crate.
Lore & Background
After locating the mummy, Jones is double-crossed by Mac and escapes to a model town at the Nevada Test Site minutes before an atomic bomb test, surviving the blast in a lead-lined refrigerator. The character's backstory says that in 1947 he was forced to investigate the Roswell UFO incident, which involved him in affairs related to Hangar 51.
Reader's Guide
Mac later claims that General Ross was his CIA control agent and that he had secretly contacted him to get Jones out of the aftermath of the Hangar 51 intrusion.
