Marshall College is a fictional school, named after producer Frank Marshall, where Indiana Jones is a professor of archaeology and which funds his research in Raiders of the Lost Ark. In Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, set in 1957, he returns from Hangar 51 to find himself placed on indefinite leave there; after the adventure in Peru he is reinstated and promoted to associate dean.
Lore & Background
Dean Charles Stanforth (Jim Broadbent), Indy's friend at the college, resigns to protect him from government agents who want him on trumped-up Communist charges, and is later reinstated. In 1940, according to the character list, Marcus Brody retired as curator of the National Museum to become dean of students at Marshall College; after his death in 1952 Indy lobbied for the bronze statue of Brody seen on the college grounds in Crystal Skull.
Reader's Guide
The motorcycle chase set at the fictional Marshall College was filmed at Yale University in New Haven, Connecticut. In the Last Crusade, Jones teaches at Barnett College instead, and in the Dial of Destiny he teaches at Hunter College in New York.
