Colonel Dietrich

The practical Nazi colonel hunting the Ark in Raiders of the Lost Ark.

Oberst Herman Dietrich, played by Wolf Kahler, is a major antagonist of Raiders of the Lost Ark. He doubts Belloq's wish to perform a "Jewish ritual" with the Ark, and calls Captain Katanga a savage when the captain hints at selling Marion Ravenwood into slavery, a claim Dietrich believes. Where his subordinate Gobler is strict, Dietrich is practical.

Background

In Lawrence Kasdan's early script his surname was Schliemann and he survived the opening of the Ark, after which he and other surviving Nazis chased Marion and Indy in a minecar. The only piece of Dietrich merchandise has been a 1984 metal miniature.
