Provisional License Exam

Two phases: cut the field to a hundred, then save the victims of a staged disaster.

The Provisional Hero License Exam in My Hero Academia is the test a hero student must pass to receive a provisional license. The license lets its holder take part in Hero Work-Studies under a Pro Hero and fight villains in an emergency. Class 1-A sits it in the first year, together with students from other hero schools such as Shiketsu High School and Ketsubutsu Academy.

Lore & Background

The exam has two phases. The first is an elimination round that cuts the field down to one hundred examinees; all of Class 1-A makes it through. In the second, the survivors must rescue people from a simulated disaster. The victims are professional actors, the older students set up a first-aid station, and partway through the Pro Hero Gang Orca arrives playing a villain, so that the examinees have to hold him off while the rescue goes on.

Reader's Guide

Shoto Todoroki and the Shiketsu student Inasa Yoarashi get in each other's way against Gang Orca until they finally combine fire and wind to pin him, and Izuku Midoriya lands the last attack. When the results are shown, every Class 1-A student has a license except Shoto and Katsuki Bakugo. The two of them, with Inasa, are sent on a three-month course to earn theirs, which they do after the Joint Training.
