Shigaraki's Origin Reveal

The boy called Tenko Shimura, and the day his Quirk appeared.

Tomura Shigaraki's origin is revealed in My Hero Academia in the middle of his fight with Re-Destro of the Meta Liberation Army. When Re-Destro destroys the severed hands Shigaraki wears on his body, flashes of his dead family come back to him. Until then he had lost those memories.

Lore & Background

He was born Tenko Shimura. His father Kotaro ruled the house by one harsh law: never talk about heroes, because heroes hurt their own families to help strangers. Kotaro's mother was the hero Nana Shimura, All Might's master, who had left him in foster care to keep him safe. When Tenko's sister Hana showed him a picture of their grandmother, their father struck him for his excitement.

Reader's Guide

Then Tenko's Quirk, Decay, appeared. It killed his family one by one, his mother as she tried to comfort him; when his panicking father attacked him, Tenko killed him on purpose. Ignored by passers-by, he wandered the streets until All For One took him in. Remembering all of it frees his power: he destroys Re-Destro's base and defeats him. Much later All For One's vestige claims to have arranged the whole of that life, even to giving Tenko the Quirk.
