One For All was created when two separate Quirks merged due to the interference of the villain All For One. The Quirk grants the ability to stockpile raw power and transfer it to a successor. The eighth holder, Toshinori Yagi, known as All Might, used this accumulated might to become the world's greatest hero and the Symbol of Peace. A crippling injury from his first fight with All For One eventually forced him to look for an heir. He chose Izuku Midoriya, a Quirkless boy who dreamed of becoming a hero, after witnessing his selfless attempt to save Bakugo. Midoriya underwent nearly a year of physical training before receiving the Quirk and passing U.A.'s Entrance Exam by saving Ochaco Uraraka. As the ninth holder, Midoriya later awakened the ability to communicate with the vestiges of the previous users and slowly acquire all of their individual Quirks, such as Blackwhip and Fa Jin.

During his internship the retired hero Gran Torino helped him understand how to channel the power safely. The Quirk is directly opposed to All For One, a villain who can steal and transfer Quirks. The lineage includes Nana Shimura, the seventh user and grandmother of Tomura Shigaraki, All For One's apprentice.

The Genesis of One For All

One For All serves as the narrative engine for Izuku Midoriya's journey from a Quirkless dreamer to a hero. Born without a Quirk in a society where eighty percent possess superpowers, Deku idolizes All Might, the world's greatest hero. His defining moment occurs when he attempts to rescue his childhood friend Katsuki Bakugo from a villainous attack, an act of selfless bravery witnessed by an injured All Might. Recognizing Midoriya's potential despite his lack of innate abilities, All Might bestows upon him his own Quirk, One For All.

This unique power allows its user to stockpile raw energy and pass it down through generations, making Deku the ninth holder in a lineage that stretches back decades. Nearly a year of physical training comes first, to prepare Midoriya's body for the Quirk. Upon successfully passing U.A. High School's entrance exam by saving Ochaco Uraraka, he joins Class 1-A, where he must learn to control this overwhelming power without destroying his own limbs while facing threats from the League of Villains.

One For All is distinct among Quirks because it functions as a cumulative stockpile of raw power that can be inherited by a successor. Unlike most abilities which manifest in toddlerhood or carry specific drawbacks like physical mutation, One For All aggregates the energy of previous users into a single reservoir. This accumulation creates immense strength but puts the user's body at risk until it is mastered; at first Deku hurts himself whenever he uses it.

The Quirk is central to the conflict between heroes and villains, specifically linking All Might to his arch-nemesis, All For One. The lineage of One For All includes Nana Shimura, the seventh user and grandmother of Tomura Shigaraki, creating a tragic familial connection within the story's main antagonist group.
