The Dagger
The artifact that bends time and fate.
The Dagger of Time is a key artifact in Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, a 2003 action-adventure game developed by Ubisoft Montreal and published by Ubisoft. It is obtained by the unnamed Prince during the sack of an ancient city in India, and its powers are central to the game's platforming and combat mechanics.
Lore & Background
In the game, the Prince obtains the Dagger of Time while looting the palace of a Maharaja in India. The Dagger is used to release the Sands of Time from an hourglass, transforming the people of Azad into monsters. It also protects the Prince from the Sands' effects. Together with Farah, who wields a staff and a medallion, the Prince uses the Dagger to rewind time, freeze enemies, and gather Sands from defeated monsters.
Reader's Guide
The Dagger of Time is used for both defensive and offensive purposes. Its primary ability is Rewind, which allows the Prince to reverse time by up to ten seconds to undo fatal mistakes. In combat, after acquiring special power tanks, the Prince can use Sand Powers: slow time around him, freeze a single enemy, or freeze time completely to attack at great speed. Each use consumes one Sand Tank; tanks are refilled by collecting Sands from enemies and the environment. Enemies must be stabbed with the Dagger after being damaged by the sword to be killed and to gather Sands.
