Gran Torino

The retired hero who trained All Might, and then Izuku Midoriya.

Gran Torino (Sorahiko Torino) is a retired hero in My Hero Academia and the former mentor of both All Might and Izuku Midoriya. His Quirk, Jet, lets him shoot air from the soles of his feet. All Might still trembles when he is mentioned, remembering how brutal his training was.

Lore & Background

Gran Torino sends Izuku an internship offer after the Sports Festival. When Izuku arrives he plays the part of a senile old man who keeps calling him "Toshinori", an act meant to tease his new student. During the internship Izuku watches food turn in a microwave and makes the connection to himself: he spreads One For All's power continuously through his whole body. Gran Torino is impressed by how fast he grasps the lesson, which becomes the technique Full Cowl.

Reader's Guide

During the attack on Hosu City he defeats one of the three Nomu. He later works with the police on the League of Villains, capturing Kurogiri, and on the Paranormal Liberation Front. In the war Shigaraki nearly kills him, and afterwards his injuries keep him out of hero work. Elements of the character are based on Yoda.
