A fortress of fragile hope where humanity tried to rebuild before the walls fell.
The Prison Survivors are the community Rick Grimes' group built in an abandoned prison in Georgia, the West Georgia Correctional Facility, which they occupied eight months after abandoning Hershel Greene's farm. The prison became their stronghold until the Governor destroyed it.

Lore & Background
On arrival the group cleared the prison yard of walkers and found surviving convicts; Rick spared two of them, Oscar and Axel. Michonne arrived wounded with supplies Maggie and Glenn had gathered, and the survivors of Woodbury later joined the community. Several months after the Governor's first attack, a deadly flu killed many of the prison's people.
Reader's Guide
The prison was run first by Rick and later, after he relinquished his leadership, by a council. Its main enemy was the Governor of Woodbury. In his final attack he beheaded Hershel with Michonne's sword in front of the prison, and his men drove a tank through the fences; the survivors scattered.
