Morgan and Duane Jones, the first living people Rick meets after waking from his coma.

The Jones family of the comic book series is Morgan Jones and his young son Duane, who hide out in houses in Rick's neighborhood trying to ride out the zombie apocalypse. Morgan is the first living person Rick meets after waking up, and he tells Rick about the outbreak and what has happened in the world over the past couple of months.

Background

After meeting Rick and taking weapons from the police station, Morgan and Duane part ways with him, perhaps to meet again some day. Much later, at Christmas, father and son are seen alive and well in a cabin on a snowy mountain. When Rick next encounters them Morgan is alive but Duane has turned; unable to cope with his son's death, Morgan has locked the reanimated boy in the house with chains and leaves him to roam there when he joins Rick's community.

Morgan, a devoted father still struggling with the recent death of his wife, develops an attraction to Michonne and a complicated relationship with her. While fighting off zombies with Michonne, Rick and the others he is caught off guard and bitten on the arm; Michonne chops the arm off, leaving him bedridden, and shortly afterwards she kills him before he can reanimate.
