Alexandria Safe-Zone

A fragile paradise that taught the world how to survive again.

The Alexandria Safe-Zone is a walled community located in the suburbs of Washington, D.C., originally a pre-existing planned community (a housing development) that was fortified after the outbreak. It is introduced in the comic book series as a sanctuary that Rick Grimes' group joins after being recruited by Aaron. The community is initially led by Douglas Monroe, who welcomes Rick's group, though other residents like Nicholas and the council are hesitant. After a zombie attack puts the community in disarray, Rick becomes leader following Douglas' death. Alexandria later forms alliances with the Hilltop Colony and The Kingdom, participating in wars against the Saviors and the Whisperers. The community also makes contact with a civilization in Ohio called The Commonwealth, which leads to a class war. Twenty-five years later, Alexandria's survivors live on a riverside farm.
