Hilltop Colony

The Hilltop Colony is a community of about two hundred survivors, built around a mansion, whose ambassador Paul "Jesus" Monroe opens a trading network with Alexandria. Its first leader is Gregory; Maggie Greene succeeds him when the people rally behind Rick Grimes' war against the Saviors.

Under Gregory the Hilltop accepted a deal with Negan: the Saviors killed walkers near the colony in return for half of its supplies. Fed up with this subjugation, its people joined Rick's war, and Maggie replaced Gregory as leader; Gregory was later hanged for his attempt on Maggie's life. The Hilltop also had a blacksmith, Earl Sutton, to whom Carl and later Henry went as apprentices.

Reader's Guide

During the war with the Whisperers the Hilltop was destroyed; its children, Judith among them, escaped. The damage was too severe to repair, and in the years after the defeat of Pamela Milton Maggie abandoned the original Hilltop and relocated the community to a rural factory complex in New York or New Jersey.
