Kyudai Garaki

All For One's personal doctor and the maker of the Nomu.

Dr. Kyudai Garaki is All For One's personal doctor in My Hero Academia, a genius mad scientist and the man responsible for creating the Nomu. His Quirk, Life Force, extends his lifespan and makes him look younger than he is; he has been alive since Quirks first appeared, which makes him one of the oldest characters in the series.

Lore & Background

Garaki follows All For One's will dutifully. More than 70 years ago he developed the Quirk Singularity theory and was ridiculed for it; only All For One believed him. Under the alias Dr. Tsubasa he ran clinics, and it was he who diagnosed the young Izuku Midoriya as Quirkless and told his mother Inko that the boy should give up on becoming a hero. Like Gigantomachia, he doubted at first that Tomura Shigaraki was worthy to succeed All For One, but agreed to give him the chance to prove it.

Reader's Guide

His laboratory lies beneath Jaku Hospital, where he keeps the High-End Nomu and where Shigaraki undergoes the procedure that gives him All For One's Quirk. Kurogiri, made from the corpse of Oboro Shirakumo, is his work too, and he admits that the incident behind it was meant for Eraser Head. In the Jaku Hospital Raid he is apprehended; Present Mic, Shirakumo's friend, punches him for what he did. From his cell he later recounts how All For One first met Dabi. The character was first named Maruta Shiga; the name was changed after a backlash over its association with Unit 731.
