Tomura Shigaraki
The decayed heir to a legacy of ruin, seeking to dismantle the world built on lies.
Tomura Shigaraki is the primary antagonist of the My Hero Academia series, leading the League of Villains and later the Paranormal Liberation Front. Originally a troubled child named Tenko Shimura, he was manipulated by the villain All For One after a tragic event that killed his family. Shigaraki's Quirk, Decay, allows him to disintegrate anything he touches with all five fingers. He is driven by a deep hatred of heroes and society, believing they are built on lies and hypocrisy. His evolution from an emotionally volatile young villain to a cold, strategic force capable of challenging the strongest heroes mirrors the series' central conflict.

Lore & Background
Tomura Shigaraki is the leader of the League of Villains, a group that initially attacked Class 1-A and All Might during one of their classes. He is the apprentice of All For One and the grandson of the deceased seventh One For All user Nana Shimura. Shigaraki's Quirk, Decay, manifested when he accidentally killed his family, and he was later taken in by All For One. He led the League in kidnapping Katsuki Bakugo during a summer training camp, hoping to recruit him. After the League merged with the Meta Liberation Army to become the Paranormal Liberation Front, Shigaraki underwent a procedure to obtain All For One's Quirk of stealing and transferring other Quirks. He awoke from the procedure and went on a massive destruction spree, causing widespread chaos. During the war, Deku saw Shigaraki possessed by All For One's vestige, and both Deku and Ochaco developed sympathy for their villains.
In Their Own Story
The wind howled through the ruins of the city, carrying the scent of dust and ozone. Tomura Shigaraki stood atop the crumbling skyscraper, his tattered mask fluttering in the breeze. Below, the sirens wailed like dying animals, a symphony of panic that he found strangely soothing. He raised a hand, watching the concrete beneath his fingertips turn to gray powder, crumbling away as if it had never existed. 'It's all just waiting to fall apart,' he whispered, his voice barely audible over the chaos. To him, this wasn't destruction; it was liberation from a world that demanded too much.
Reader's Guide
Tomura Shigaraki began life as Tenko Shimura, the grandson of Nana Shimura. His childhood ended in tragedy when his Quirk Decay manifested and he accidentally killed his family. This event severed his connection to society, leading to a period of isolation where he was manipulated by All For One. All For One groomed Tenko into Tomura, convincing him that heroes were the root of all suffering and that true freedom required their destruction. Shigaraki eventually formed the League of Villains, uniting disparate outcasts under his banner. His early years as a villain were marked by emotional volatility and a reliance on his mentor's guidance. The mechanics of Decay allow him to disintegrate anything he touches with five fingers, though using fewer fingers limits the effect. Over time, All For One implanted additional Quirks into Shigaraki, granting him abilities like Blackwhip, Float, and Air Manipulation, transforming him into a multi-faceted threat. Shigaraki's evolution from a reactive teen to the leader of the Paranormal Liberation Front marks his shift toward calculated genocide. He no longer seeks just to destroy symbols but aims to dismantle the entire system of hero society, viewing himself as the catalyst for a new world order born from ashes.
