Squirrelflight

Firestar's daughter, who went from tag-along apprentice to leader of ThunderClan.

Squirrelflight is a ThunderClan warrior, the daughter of Firestar and Sandstorm and the sister of Leafpool. She is introduced in The New Prophecy as the apprentice Squirrelpaw, trained by Dustpelt, and joins the journey to the sun-drown-place. Firestar gives her the warrior name Squirrelflight in Starlight, after the Clans reach the lake. She later serves as deputy to her mate Brambleclaw and succeeds him as leader of ThunderClan under the name Squirrelstar.

Lore & Background

In Midnight, Squirrelpaw tags along when Brambleclaw and the other chosen cats set out toward the setting sun. In Starlight she runs ahead of the patrol exploring the lake, falls into a large circular stone hollow, and realizes it would make a well-sheltered camp for ThunderClan. After a separation from Brambleclaw she turns to Ashfur, but the badger attack rekindles her love for Brambleclaw, and Ashfur never forgives her. In Power of Three she raises Hollyleaf, Lionblaze and Jayfeather as her own kits; during the fire in Long Shadows she reveals that she is not their mother, and in Sunrise Brambleclaw ends their relationship over the deception. She and Brambleclaw are the parents of Sparkpelt and Alderheart. Squirrelflight's Hope follows her as ThunderClan deputy, struggling with her lack of a legacy.
