Lore & Background

A dream from StarClan sends Brambleclaw, Feathertail, Crowpaw and Tawnypelt to hear what 'midnight' has to say; with Squirrelpaw and Stormfur they reach the sun-drown-place, where the badger Midnight warns that humans will destroy the forest. After the Clans settle by the lake, the spirit of Tigerstar visits Brambleclaw and his half-brother Hawkfrost in their dreams and plans for the two to take over the Clans. When he finds Firestar caught in a fox trap and Hawkfrost urges him to kill the leader, Brambleclaw frees Firestar and kills Hawkfrost with the trap's sharp stick.

In Sunrise he ends his relationship with Squirrelflight after learning that Hollyleaf, Lionblaze and Jayfeather are not their kits. In The Broken Code the spirit of Ashfur possesses his body and casts his spirit into the Dark Forest; he takes his body back once Ashfur is defeated. In A Starless Clan he steps down as leader and becomes an elder, and later dies.
