StarClan

Beyond the last breath, the stars remember every paw that walked the path.

StarClan is the afterlife and the faith of the Clans in Warriors: the spirits of the Clans' dead ancestors, who watch over the living and give them prophetic guidance. After death the spirits of most Clan cats join StarClan and live in a forest likened to Heaven, while cats who caused great suffering go to the Dark Forest instead. StarClan is represented by Silverpelt, the Milky Way, each star standing for the spirit of one dead warrior. Its guidance comes mostly through dreams, signs and omens.

Lore & Background

Medicine cats are the Clans' link to StarClan. In the forest they travel every half-moon to the Moonstone, and at the lake they share dreams with StarClan at the Moonpool; a new leader receives nine lives and a new name from StarClan. StarClan warriors usually watch over the Clan they belonged to in life. Their messages are cryptic: the series creator Victoria Holmes has said that StarClan is 'powerless', with only an inkling of what is going to happen, and that its ambiguous signs create a need for faith.

The series opens with such a message, 'Fire alone can save our Clan', and the prophecy of the three kin of Firestar's kin drives Power of Three and Omen of the Stars. Not every cat believes: Cloudtail does not, the RiverClan medicine cat Mothwing doubted StarClan's existence for a very long time, and in Eclipse the loner Sol turns ShadowClan from its ancestors for a while. The Tribe of Rushing Water follows its own ancestors, the Tribe of Endless Hunting.

In Omen of the Stars, StarClan fights beside the living Clans against the Dark Forest, and in The Broken Code the spirit of Ashfur cuts the Clans off from StarClan until he is defeated.
