The 1996 Intercontinental Cup was a football match between Juventus of Italy and River Plate of Argentina on 26 November 1996 at the National Stadium in Tokyo, Japan. Juventus won 1–0, securing their second Intercontinental Cup win.

Juventus qualified by winning the 1995–96 UEFA Champions League, beating AFC Ajax 4–2 on penalties after a 1–1 draw. River Plate qualified as 1996 Copa Libertadores champions, beating América de Cali 2–1 on aggregate. This was Juventus' third appearance; they lost in 1973 and won in 1985. River Plate made their second appearance, having won in 1986.
