The Grande Torino was Torino's team of the 1940s, five times champions of Italy and the backbone of the Italy national team. Its five consecutive titles equalled the record Juventus had set in the Quinquennio d'oro, and it also won a Coppa Italia.

Background
The side was built under president Ferruccio Novo, who took over in 1939. Its players died on 4 May 1949 in the Superga air disaster. Torino's meetings with Juventus are the Derby della Mole, the oldest ongoing city derby in Italian football.
