Juventus was founded as Sport-Club Juventus in late 1897 by students from the Massimo d'Azeglio Lyceum school in Turin, including Eugenio and Enrico Canfari. The club was renamed Foot-Ball Club Juventus in 1899, and entered the Italian Football Championship in 1900. In 1905, Juventus won their first Italian championship. The club adopted its famous black-and-white striped shirts, inspired by English side Notts County, replacing its original pink and black colours. In 1906, internal disagreements led president Alfred Dick and several players to leave Juventus and form Foot-Ball Club Torino. In 1923, Edoardo Agnelli, vice president of FIAT, became club president. During the 1930s, Juventus became Italy's first major professional club and dominated the national championship, winning five consecutive league titles between 1931 and 1935. Under Giovanni Trapattoni between the late 1970s and the 1985–86 season, Juventus won six league titles, as well as the UEFA Cup (1976–77), the Cup Winners' Cup (1983–84) and the European Champions' Cup (1984–85), becoming the first club to win all three major UEFA competitions. Under Marcello Lippi in the 1990s, Juventus won five league titles and the 1996 Champions League, reaching three consecutive Champions League finals between 1996 and 1998. Between 2012 and 2020, Juventus won a record nine consecutive Serie A titles and reached two UEFA Champions League finals.
