Background
Until the First World War it set two social classes against each other: Juventus, founded in 1897 by students of a prestigious Turin high school, became linked with the city's bourgeoisie, especially after its bond with the Agnelli family began in 1923, while Torino was formed in 1906 by dissidents from Juventus who joined Football Club Torinese and identified with the industrial world. The differences eased by the 1960s and 1970s; Juventus has since become a global club while Torino keeps a mainly local following. Both clubs once carried the bull from the city's coat of arms in their badges, until Juventus adopted its J-shaped logo in 2017.
