Lore & Background
The Cup Winners' Cup was the second inter-European club competition organised by UEFA, running for 39 seasons from 1960–61 to 1998–99. Entry was restricted to one club per UEFA member association, with the exception of the current holders. After the 1998–99 season, the competition was discontinued and its participants were absorbed into the UEFA Cup (now the UEFA Europa League), not the Champions League.
