Juventus's first European Cup final, lost to Ajax in Belgrade.
Juventus reached their first European Cup final in 1973, facing two-time defending champions Ajax at the Red Star Stadium in Belgrade on 30 May 1973. Johnny Rep scored after four minutes and Ajax won 1-0, taking their third straight European Cup and the right to keep the trophy.

Background
Juventus qualified as 1971-72 Serie A champions. They beat Olympique de Marseille 3-1 on aggregate, Magdeburg 2-0, and Újpesti Dózsa on away goals after a 2-2 aggregate, then defeated Derby County 3-1 on aggregate in the semi-finals. As runners-up, they later replaced Ajax in the 1973 Intercontinental Cup against Independiente.
