Lore & Background
The trophy was created in 1960 by sculptor and medalist Ettore Calvelli. It originally had a height of 45 cm and weighs about 5 kg, resting on a lapis lazuli base with a central gold ring depicting an allegory of athletes. In 2015, its height was increased to 65 cm for television requirements. The cup bears engraved on a golden ring the names of all teams that have won the top division since the 1960–61 season. The original trophy remains property of the Lega Serie A and is only held in custody by the winning club; upon return, the club receives a reduced scale model for their trophy room.

The first team to be awarded the Coppa Campioni d'Italia was Juventus in 1961. The same club received the trophy for the first time on the field in 2005, though that award was later stripped.
