Background
Ezio becomes an Assassin while hunting down the men responsible for the deaths of his father and brothers. The open world covers several Italian cities, among them Florence, Venice, Monteriggioni, San Gimignano and Forlì.
The game runs on an updated Anvil engine, and Ubisoft promoted it with Assassin's Creed: Lineage, a three-part live-action short film that serves as a prequel. Two chapters cut for time, The Battle of Forlì and Bonfire of the Vanities, were later sold as downloadable expansions.
Critics gave it universal acclaim for its narrative, characters and world design, and it is often listed among the best video games ever made.
