Background
He is looking for five keys that open a library built by Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad, the hero of the first game. In the city he is drawn into a war of succession for the Ottoman throne and a plot by the Byzantine Templars, who want the keys for themselves.
Altaïr is playable in a series of flashback missions set in Masyaf between 1189 and 1257. Desmond Miles, in a coma since the end of Brotherhood, relives his ancestors' memories in the Animus so that he can wake up, and his own sections are first-person platforming levels.
The multiplayer mode returned with extra maps, characters and modes.
