Background
Players control a Spartan mercenary who fights for both sides while trying to find their family and destroy the secretive Cult of Kosmos. Layla Hassan's story continues in the modern day, as she relives the mercenary's memories to find a powerful artifact.
Like Origins, it adopts many elements of the role-playing genre and puts more emphasis on combat and exploration than on stealth. It also introduced player-choice mechanics, and naval combat plays a prominent role. It focuses more on mythology and less on the Assassin and Templar conflict than most games in the series.
It received generally positive reviews and had sold over 10 million copies by March 2020.
