Background
Players control Eivor Varinsdottir, a Viking raider who tries to found a new clan in England and is drawn into the conflict between the Assassin Brotherhood and the Templar Order. The framing story follows Layla Hassan, who relives Eivor's memories to find a way to save the Earth.
Ubisoft Montreal led three years of development with help from fourteen other Ubisoft studios. Ashraf Ismail returned as creative director and Darby McDevitt as a lead writer, and Jesper Kyd and Sarah Schachner composed the music with Einar Selvik.
The team drew on Norse mythology and tried to bring back classic series features such as social stealth.
