Background
It follows the Welsh pirate Edward Kenway, grandfather of Connor and father of Haytham Kenway, as he hunts for fortune and for the Observatory, a mythical place both Assassins and Templars want. Part of the plot concerns the attempt to set up an independent pirate republic in the Caribbean.
Ship-based exploration of a seamless open world is central for the first time in the series. Edward captains the Jackdaw, a brig he captures from a Spanish fleet early on, and the main cities are Havana, Nassau and Kingston.
In the modern-day frame the player is an Abstergo Industries employee who is manipulated into uncovering secrets of the First Civilization.
