Background
The story follows Basim Ibn Ishaq, a street thief who joins the Hidden Ones against the Order of the Ancients, and his struggle between his duties and his wish to uncover his own past. Mirage began as a planned expansion for Valhalla before being turned into a standalone game.
Ubisoft Bordeaux, until then a support studio, aimed to return the series to its roots, putting stealth, parkour and assassinations ahead of role-playing systems, so the game is much smaller than recent entries. Baghdad is split into four districts, the Round City, Karkh, Abassiyah and Harbiyah, and Alamut, the fortress of the Hidden Ones, appears in several missions.
It was released on 5 October 2023 for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S. Critics were generally positive, praising the world design and the focus on stealth, though some criticised the characters and the story's reliance on earlier games.
