Background
In the series' alternate history he lives in the last years of the Ptolemaic Kingdom, shortly before Rome annexed Egypt. Born and raised in the Siwa Oasis, he is the last of the Medjay, a title inherited from his father, and devotes his life to the safety and welfare of the Egyptian people.
In Origins he resists the Roman incursion into Egypt while his tragic past is slowly revealed. With his wife Aya he co-founds the Hidden Ones, the forerunner of the Assassin Brotherhood, and as their leader he sometimes signed letters with the alias "Amun".
His name plays on the Egyptian hieroglyphic word for falcon or vulture, following the series habit of naming heroes after birds of prey, and his eagle Senu, which scouts for him, is treated as the living precursor of Eagle Vision. Critics and fans count him among the franchise's best protagonists.
