Background
Twin Assassins Jacob and Evie Frye work their way through the city's organised crime to take London back from Templar control, and the player switches between the two during and between missions. Extra segments set in 1916, during World War I, follow Jacob's granddaughter, Lydia Frye.
The open world is explored on foot or by carriage, and Syndicate adds new ways of travelling along with refined combat and stealth. Of its downloadable story expansions, the best known is Jack the Ripper, set twenty years after the main campaign.
Reviews praised its visuals, characters, narrative and level design, while its combat, open-world design and vehicles drew some criticism. It sold over 5.5 million units by November 2017, less than earlier entries, and Ubisoft ended the yearly release cycle of the series afterwards.
