Rikido Sato

Class 1-A's sweets-loving powerhouse, whose strength runs on sugar.

Rikido Sato, hero name Sugarman, is a sweets-loving student of Class 1-A at U.A. High School. His Quirk, Sugar Rush, raises his physical strength whenever he eats sugar, and the price is a drop in his cognitive functions. Each additional 10 grams of sugar keeps the extra strength going for another three minutes.

Lore & Background

Sato comes from Tottori Prefecture, which makes him the only Class 1-A student from the Chugoku region. Because Sugar Rush depends on sugar, he has become a very talented baker, and the warm reaction to his baking surprises him. Every week in the dorms he bakes sweets for his classmates, a habit he calls "Sugar Time", and he pairs them with Momo Yaoyorozu's tea. He can cook other food as well, as the class Christmas party shows.

Reader's Guide

In the first-term final exam Sato is one of five Class 1-A students, with Kirishima, Mina Ashido, Kaminari and Hanta Sero, who fail and are set to take remedial courses. Series creator Kohei Horikoshi regarded Sugar Rush as a very strong Quirk and wanted to show it earlier. In the anime he is voiced by Toru Nara in Japanese and Cris George in English.
