Background

He ate the Logia-type Smoke-Smoke Fruit, which lets him create and control smoke and turn into it, and he fights with a jutte tipped with sea-prism stone. Seeing Luffy smile before escaping execution in Loguetown, much as Gold Roger did at his own execution, convinces Smoker that Luffy is a threat, and he follows him into the Grand Line, growing more obsessed after learning that Luffy is Dragon's son. He has mentored Tashigi since the Straw Hats came to Loguetown. Two years after the Paramount War he is a vice-admiral, and on Punk Hazard he reluctantly works with the Straw Hats and the Heart Pirates to defeat Caesar Clown.
