Background

Having seen Oden die, Yamato vowed to carry on his will to free Wano from Kaido's tyranny, which ruined his relationship with his father. While imprisoned by Kaido for rebelling, he read Oden's logbook with the help of three Wano samurai and later befriended Ace when Ace visited. He ate the Dog-Dog Fruit, Model Okuchi no Makami, which lets him turn into that mythical Japanese wolf deity and unleash cold and ice attacks. Yamato helps the Straw Hats defeat Kaido but turns down an offer to join the crew, choosing first to travel around Wano to keep it safe. He is named after the Japanese folk hero Yamato Takeru.
