Background

He ate the Logia-type Sand-Sand Fruit, which lets him make and control sand, draw the moisture out of things with his right hand and turn his body into sand as long as he is not wet. In place of his left hand he wears a large golden hook that holds a potent poison, with a dagger hidden underneath. When it comes out that he led Baroque Works and tried to take over Alabasta in a coup, Tashigi revokes his Warlord title, and after Luffy defeats him he is arrested and sent to Impel Down. Some time after the mass breakout from Impel Down he founds the Cross Guild with Mihawk and becomes one of its chief officers.
