Background

Battle for All is a 3D fighting game in which two characters battle with normal attack combos and special attacks called "Deathblows". Dealing or taking damage fills a three-level "Hero Gauge": a Super attack spends one level and a "Plus Ultra" attack all three. Each character also has a "Quirk Control" gauge, raised with the touch screen, whose effect depends on the character, and players pick two "Sidekick" characters who help in combat with benefits such as automatic blocking or briefly immobilising the opponent.

Five modes are included. "Hero Academia" is the story mode, loosely adapting the anime through the end of its first season; "Free Battle" lets players pick any opponent and change rules such as time limit, rounds and enemy strength; "Wireless Battle" is local multiplayer, with Download Play letting a second player join without owning the game. Finishing "Hero Academia" as Izuku unlocks "Hero Challenge", an arcade-style gauntlet, and the story mode for the other playable characters. Currency earned in every mode buys clothing to customise characters, while story and "Curriculum" missions grant experience points to level up and choose which stats to raise. There are 14 playable and 14 Sidekick characters, all voiced by their anime actors.

The game was announced on November 18, 2015, in Weekly Shōnen Jump alongside the arcade card game My Hero Academia: Clash! Heroes Battle, and a demo reached the Nintendo eShop on April 27, 2016. First-print copies included two Clash! Heroes Battle cards and a 3DS system theme, and a pre-release contest let fans design an alternate in-game costume for Izuku Midoriya. Todd Ciolek of Anime News Network criticised its presentation and simple combat, Famitsu scored it 31/40, and it sold 5,607 copies in its first three days.
