Enji Todoroki

The man behind the hero name Endeavor.

Enji Todoroki is the real name of the Pro Hero Endeavor in My Hero Academia. He is a hot-headed, stern hero whose Quirk, Hellflame, gives him powerful control over fire; he is immune to flames himself and can shape a blaze and set its temperature at will. He runs the Endeavor Agency, where more than thirty sidekicks work.

Lore & Background

All his life Enji has been driven to surpass All Might, and repeated failure left him in growing despair at a gap he could not close. He married Rei Himura and had four children, and he projected that obsession onto his family, above all onto his sons Toya and Shoto. The marriage soured, Rei became mentally unstable under his abuse, and after she scalded Shoto's face he had her sent to a hospital.

Reader's Guide

When All Might is forced to retire, Enji becomes Japan's No. 1 hero. He begins to see his mistakes and resolves to make amends to his family. During the war his eldest son, long believed dead, is revealed to be the villain Dabi and exposes the family's past to the nation. In the epilogue Enji uses a wheelchair because of his war injuries and retires; he visits Toya in prison regularly. Of his children only Fuyumi has forgiven him, and Natsuo disowns him.
