Constructed as a key attraction for the reopened Jurassic World, the lagoon was designed to sustain the massive Mosasaurus. The facility operated successfully for years until the park plunged into chaos following the escape of the transgenic dinosaur known as the Indominus rex. During the crisis in June 2015, the Indominus fled its paddock and eventually reached the resort area. While the hybrid was cornered at the lagoon's edge by a Tyrannosaurus rex and a Velociraptor named Blue, it was dragged underwater by the Mosasaurus. This event marked the end of the Indominus threat but also signaled the beginning of the creature's freedom. The escape occurred when the hybrid was consumed, leading to the lagoon being abandoned along with the rest of the island.

In Their Own Story

In June 2015, as the park collapsed around them, Owen Grady and Claire Dearing watched the final confrontation unfold at the water's edge. The Indominus rex had been overpowered by the combined efforts of the Tyrannosaurus and Blue, yet it remained a lethal threat. Suddenly, the water surface broke as the Mosasaurus surged upward. With immense force, it grabbed the hybrid dinosaur and dragged it beneath the waves, ending the rampage instantly. This moment was witnessed by the surviving staff and visitors who had gathered near the lagoon. Following this event, the island was evacuated, leaving the Mosasaurus free within its enclosure until the facility was ultimately abandoned.

Visitors to Jurassic World prior to June 2015 could view the Mosasaurus from a dedicated underwater platform. The attraction allowed guests to see the massive predator in its environment safely separated by glass. During the park's operation, the creature was known to breach the surface for feeding displays.
