The Advent Children Arc

Two years after Meteor: Geostigma, Edge and Sephiroth's remnants.

Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children is the CGI film sequel set two years after the game, in which Sephiroth had tried to absorb the Lifestream and be reborn as a god; Cloud Strife and his companions defeated him, but his final spell, Meteor, destroyed Midgar. The survivors founded the new city of Edge, where Cloud and Tifa run a courier service and care for the orphan Denzel and Barret's adopted daughter Marlene.

Lore & Background

Many people, including Cloud and Denzel, suffer from an incurable disease called Geostigma, and Cloud, guilt-ridden over failing to save Aerith, has isolated himself from his friends. Rufus Shinra, presumed dead in the game, summons Cloud and asks for help against Kadaj, Loz and Yazoo, physical manifestations of Sephiroth's surviving spirit who want to resurrect him using Jenova's remains. Cloud refuses, while Kadaj's group recruits children infected with Geostigma.

Advent Children was the first Compilation title announced and the second released. Dirge of Cerberus is set one year after it, and the battle system of Final Fantasy XIII was designed to emulate the film's cinematic action.
