Shinra Electric Power Company
The Midgar megacorporation draining the Planet's Lifestream for energy.
The Shinra Electric Power Company is the world-dominating megacorporation of Final Fantasy VII, headquartered in the city of Midgar. It drains the Planet's Lifestream for energy, weakening the Planet and threatening all life on it.
Lore & Background
Its forces include the Turks, a covert branch of its security services, and SOLDIER, an elite fighting force created by enhancing humans with Mako. The spin-off The First Soldier covers the company's establishment of SOLDIER to bolster its military, and Crisis Core follows Zack Fair, a SOLDIER killed by Shinra troops after turning against the company. Yusuke Naora designed the company's kanji logo.
The eco-terrorists of AVALANCHE bomb Shinra's Mako reactors, and the company answers by collapsing part of Midgar's upper plate onto their base. Rufus Shinra, son of President Shinra, later leads the company; presumed dead at the end of the game, he returns in Advent Children to summon Cloud to a meeting.
