Lore & Background
Ashamed of his looks at first, Komamura hides his whole head under a large helmet until Kenpachi Zaraki smashes it in a fight; after that he shows his face. His dog-like appearance is a source of jokes. He is a close friend of Kaname Tōsen and is shaken when Tōsen defects, vowing to bring him back to his senses himself.
Once he understands Tōsen's motives he has to fight him, and he does so until Hisagi brings Tōsen down. He is strong enough to lift the Arrancar Poww's huge released form over his head. In the Wandenreich's first invasion Bambietta Basterbine steals his bankai. He visits his werewolf grandfather to train, no longer ashamed of his ancestry, and in the second invasion takes the bankai back with the Humanization Technique and beats Bambietta nearly to death. When the technique wears off he shrinks into a small dog and Iba carries him away. Ten years later Tetsuzaemon Iba is captain and Komamura's whereabouts are unknown.
Tenken
Released with "roar", Tenken summons the parts of a giant that copy whatever Komamura moves, such as a huge arm swinging a sword. The bankai brings out the whole armoured giant. Damage to the giant is mirrored on Komamura, which is how Aizen breaking the giant's sword cost him his left arm, but because they share wounds the giant also heals as he heals, so it is the only bankai in Soul Society that can be restored without reforging. With the Human Transformation technique it gains Dangai Jōe, a lighter, demonic form that makes both nearly immune to physical damage.
