Background
In the series' alternate history she is a Louisiana Creole member of the Assassin Brotherhood, active in New Orleans in the mid-18th century under French Louisiana and then during the Spanish occupation. She works to defend abused slaves and win their freedom, and to kill members of the Templar Order she meets along the way.
She also stars in an expansion pack named after her for Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag. Writer Jill Murray said Ubisoft Sofia conceived her at the start of the project as a woman Assassin of French and Haitian descent, and the writers drew on documents of the era such as the Code Noir.
Critics have been mostly positive, especially about her place as a prominent female character of colour and her role in the series' depiction of the Atlantic slave trade.
