The Dark Forest cats
The dead who were denied StarClan, and the living they trained in their dreams.
The Dark Forest cats are the spirits of Clan cats who were not good in life and were sent to the Dark Forest, the Place of No Stars, instead of StarClan. Led by the spirit of the first Tigerstar, they prepare an attack on the living Clans in Omen of the Stars and recruit living cats by training them for battle in their dreams. The arc ends with the Great Battle, in which the Clans and StarClan fight them together.
Lore & Background
Known Dark Forest spirits include Tigerstar and his son Hawkfrost, the former ShadowClan leader Brokenstar, Mapleshade, who haunts the dreams of Crookedstar and the first Tigerstar, and One Eye, named as the forest's founder. Tigerstar and Hawkfrost train Lionpaw, and Hawkfrost later trains Ivypaw while pretending to come from StarClan; Breezepelt and Tigerheart are drawn in as well, and Icestar of RiverClan trained there when young. Ivypaw turns spy once she overhears Tigerstar's contempt for ThunderClan. In the Great Battle of The Last Hope both StarClan and Dark Forest cats take bodily form; Brokenstar's spirit is killed by his mother Yellowfang, Hawkfrost's by Brambleclaw and Tigerstar's by Firestar. Later villains join them after death: Splashtail and Berryheart of A Starless Clan both go to the Dark Forest.
