2007 Tour de France

A London start, a leader sent home, and Contador's first Tour.

The 2007 Tour de France was the 94th edition, held from 7 to 29 July, beginning with a prologue in London and ending with the traditional finish in Paris after passing through Belgium and Spain, and was won by the Spaniard Alberto Contador. Doping dominated the race: three riders and two teams were withdrawn after positive tests, among them pre-race favourite Alexander Vinokourov and his Astana team, and after stage 16 the race leader Michael Rasmussen was pulled out by his Rabobank team, which accused him of lying about missed drug tests earlier in the year. Tom Boonen won the points classification for the first time and Mauricio Soler the mountains in his first Tour. The overall was open until the stage 19 time trial, with Contador, Cadel Evans and Levi Leipheimer separated by only 2 min 49 s and both his rivals the stronger time triallists.
