2009 Tour de France
Monaco to Paris through six countries, and Contador's second.
The 2009 Tour de France was the 96th edition, starting on 4 July in Monaco with a 15 km time trial that used part of the Circuit de Monaco and finishing on 26 July on the Champs-Élysées after visiting Monaco, France, Spain, Andorra, Switzerland and Italy. The 3,445 km route included 93 km of time trials, seven mountain stages with three summit finishes, the first team time trial since 2005, the shortest individual time-trial distance since 1967 and the Tour's first penultimate-day mountain stage.
Alberto Contador, the 2007 winner, won by 4 min 11 s, taking a mountain stage and a time trial, and his Astana team won the team classification. Andy Schleck was second and won the young rider prize for the second year. Lance Armstrong's original third place was voided in October 2012 and Bradley Wiggins promoted to the podium; Franco Pellizotti's mountains title was also stripped by the Court of Arbitration for Sport.
