2010 Tour de France
Rotterdam cobbles, the Tourmalet twice, and a winner decided in court.
The 2010 Tour de France was the 97th edition, starting on 3 July with an 8.9 km prologue in Rotterdam, the first Dutch start since 1996, and finishing on 25 July on the Champs-Élysées after 3,642 km through the Netherlands, Belgium and France, including 60.9 km of time trials. The opening road stages echoed the spring classics, with seven cobbled sectors totalling 13.2 km on stage 3, the most since 1983, and the route had six mountain stages, three with summit finishes, with the emphasis on the Pyrenees and two climbs of the Tourmalet to mark the centenary of their first inclusion.
Alberto Contador won on the road but was later found to have failed a doping test; in February 2012 the Court of Arbitration for Sport stripped him of his 2010 results and declared Andy Schleck the winner. Schleck also took the young rider classification for the third year running, and Anthony Charteau of France won the polka-dot jersey.
