Panem

The post-apocalyptic nation of the Hunger Games.

Panem is the dystopian nation in North America where the series is set, centuries in the future. It is made up of the wealthy Capitol in the Rocky Mountains and twelve poorer districts, originally thirteen. Katniss lives in District 12 in Appalachia, the poorest region, where people die of starvation. The series never says what lies beyond Panem's borders, and over the trilogy its districts rise against the Capitol.
